That Elusive Prize

In case you missed it, the WCHA posteason tournament winner receives the Broadmoor Trophy. As in the massive hotel/resort in southwest Colorado Springs, as in the place the Tigers played for 55 years. The trophy has existed only since the 80s but the Tigers (the team it was basically named after) have never won the thing. The Tigers have won 6 regular season titles in that time (including 3 in a row) tied with ND for the most in that period, but not the post-season title. Maybe this season will break the curse and the Tigers can get both, plus that elusive 3rd national championship trophy. Milo Bryant has a great article about the Broadmoor Trophy and I found it, not at the Gayzette site, but on the DU blog. I guess being the special team this season has it's perks huh? Game Pics Updated: Tigers Moving On

I finally got my pics up from the game last night, they are in the game pics section to the left. Something about a loss like that doesn't make it too exciting to post, although some of the pics are pretty sweet...if I'm allowed to comment about my own pics :). And when the weather goes from 74 to 29, well, let's just say it doesn't go well with my cold. If you haven't already, be sure to check my pics from my Saturday adventure in Red Rocks Park. I'm loving my tan from the CO sunshine!
As far as the game, I've decided to move on to the future instead of living in the past. So all I will say about last night is that it happened and the Tigers are better for it. In the long run, a huge dose of humility should do the Tigers good. Instead of bordering on a cocky swagger, the Tigers should have more bite in the coming weeks with a chip on their shoulder. Look for Scott Owens to dig out the best in this team and learn from what happened last night. I know he was extremely disappointed and will be looking to take advantage of the final weekend.
Which brings us to the rivals up I-25. Had North Dakota lost tonight (they won 2-1 in OT), the Tigers would have still gained their MacNaughton Cup share. Instead, they are looking at battling for 2 trophies this weekend in an already intense rivalry. The Tigers need just 2 points for a tie of the WCHA title and 3 for an outright win. Also, the Tigers need 2 points to retain the Gold Pan. The Gold Pan is held based on winning it outright, right now it's 2-to-2, so if the teams split, the Tigers will retain. Friday night will be a battle of bitter taste since both the Tigers and Pioneers came off losses that each team should have won. In case you haven't seen already, letsgodu has already launched their theme of the week. If the Tigers can sweep this weekend, we will be seeing the Tigers in the Frozen Four playing for a championship. If they split, it will be a good run but they will be up and down enough to give fans a heart attack. If we get swept? Well, thinking that is just blasphemy! Should be a fun series and a great week, I'll try to have some ongoing commentary for your entertainment, oh and if anyone has a theme for the week let me know so we can have it properly displayed;)

Tuesday Notes

I was reading through the new INCH Power Rankings and discovered one of the funnier descriptions I've come across. Granted, they have a point but it's still funny:
The Pioneers are 18-0-0 this season when scoring more goals than their opponents.
Hmmm, strange that they are undefeated...here's the rest so I don't take it completely out of context: Of course, Wisconsin would say DU is 17-0-0 when outscoring opponents, and 1-0-0 when scoring the same number of goals as their foes.

It reminds me of a line uttered at halftime a few years back during a CU-Nebraska game:
"for CU to win this game, they need to score more points than Nebraska". Wow dude, can we all have your job??

Here's an interview with Scott Owens after the first weekend of the season that I found. It's funny to see what the team outlook was i.e. starting a freshman goalie we weren't too sure about ;)

Here's an interesting twist: I'm averaging about 20% of my daily referrals are from the DU blog. Who says rivals can't share interests!

CC suspensions talk of Colorado

Judging from the google searches from the day that lead to my site and the referrals from the DU Blog (I posted their story about the suspensions), the CC player suspensions are a hot topic among hockey fans in the state. Anyone's guess is as good as the next regarding what exactly one would have to do to get suspended until next season and basically kicked out of school (read: Cody Lampl). Whatever the case, the fact that no one at CC is releasing any information is just letting this thing run wild with rumors and stories, as I posted earlier. I tend to stay out of message boards simply because they seem to be full of over-opinionated and/or hyper-sensitive types that have nothing else to do but b*tch about stuff (ever read the comments on the DenverPost?!) So, as far as what the DU bloggers did to provoke an outcry, I could care less. they did, however, love the fact that I posted their "bounty story" on here.

As far as the suspensions themselves, the closest person to the team and information is Kate Crandall of the Gayzette and all she has said is the length of the suspensions, who it was and that "Colorado College president Richard Celeste cited privacy laws in declining comment Thursday on the school suspensions of two hockey players." according to the last printed piece in the paper. SO, that leaves all of us hockey fans to mock "Who knew that photoshopping Coach's face with Ron Jeremy's body was against Facebook's Rules?", and make funny yet obscene references to college frat hazing "CC hockey players learned that in Colorado a sheep is not a "consenting adult" as that term relates to sexual acts." Just a few of the funny guesses that are popping up on the DU blog. Judging from the recent news coming out of that ultra-liberal campus, the players probably did something "insensitive" to offend a minority group that doesn't even have one representative at the campus. Remember, this is the same president that said the student chants at games are "blatantly homophobic in nature" and went nuts over the blackface incident (something I went off on earlier), even if it is the highlight of the night for many of us fans. And, thanks to our DU friends, I have an amazing pic to go along with this whole ordeal. I think everyone just needs a big hug...
